The Visit Nenagh Cycling Classic has
the potential to become an international event which would attract visitors
from both home and abroad should this years inaugural event prove a success.
That was the message that came from the official launch of the Visit Nenagh
Cycle Classic at The Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh on Friday the 24th of
February where the riders of the Visit Nenagh N7 Cycling team were also unveiled.

Promotional Flyer- PDF Document The 2012 County Tipperary Holiday Guidebook has just been launched for
the 2012 tourism season. The guidebook will be widely distributed both
at home and abroad. It will also be available at all tourist offices and
tourist information points in the region, together with points of entry
to the country. A walk and party with a Valentine's Day
romantic theme will be held in Upperchurch on Sunday Feb 12th,
starting from the village at 3.00pm. With the onset of spring (hopefully), a
time when the thoughts of the young and maybe not so young are said to turn
to thoughts of romance, a good walk in the country air followed by a little
socialising in a romantic atmosphere could help to “mellow the fellow” and
“soften the heart of the ice-maiden”. Other upcoming walking events in
Upperchurch include a Siúl Trí Ghaeilge walk on March 11th and
the Easter Sunrise Walk on April 8th. Visit
www.upperchurch.ie for further
information. North
Tipperary Trails Group as part of their ‘Get to Know your Local Walks
Programme’ are encouraging you to take part in the Upperchurch-Drombane
Development Association’s Annual Night Hike on the 18th of
December. The two communities of Upperchurch and Drombane have been
involved for many years in developing tourism products including hillwalking.
There are four National Looped Walks in the area which attract many walkers
from around the country and the successful annual Upperchurch Walking
Weekend held in November is growing year on year. The festive night walk begins at 7p.m from the
Community Centre in Upperchurch and registration takes place 30 minutes
prior to the walk. The walk will be guided by Richie Ryan and food can be
ordered before you set off to be enjoyed when you return for €5.
Reflections, carol singing, mulled wine and other Christmas treats will be
offered on the night so why not put on your hiking boots for the last days
of 2011 and take to the hills of Upperchurch with family and friends to
enjoy this festive walk. Don’t forget to bring a lamp/torch to help you on
your way.
The sixth annual Upperchurch Walking Weekend held last Friday, Saturday and Sunday proved to be the most successful to date with ideal weather conditions and over eight hundred people participating in the various events. The festival is now firmly established as one of the foremost social, activity and tourism events in the county, mainly thanks to the co-operation of the landowners, local volunteers and official bodies.
The official launch on Friday night was, as usual, very well attended with several interesting talks on diverse topics. The primary and post primary schools art competition drew an entry of 353 posters on the subject of "Historical Tipperary" and all entries were on display over the weekend. Complete results will be published next week.
All eight walks drew massive participation with some walks having over a hundred people. The scenic uplands looked their best with the rounded contours of the Slieve Felims displaying the brilliant green of late season growth mixed with gold and umber autumnal hues.
Of course the social aspect of the weekend is what makes Upperchurch special and the overheard comment that "Its as much a talking festival as a walking festival" has an element of truth. Another almost uniquely Upperchurch feature is appetising meal served to all who take part which was very much appreciated. There were also well attended traditional music sessions and set dancing lessons.
The next big Upperchurch walking event is the Night Hike on Sunday, Dec 18th at 7.00 pm with registration at 6.30 pm. This consists of a 10 km walk to the summit of Knockalough. There will be carol singing, Scripture readings and reflections with seasonal fare such as mince pies and mulled wine provided. A light meal will also be on offer after the event. Visit www.upperchurch.ie for details or phone 0504 54443 from 10 to 2 weekdays or 0504 54284 or 086 0518934 at other times. Some local hotels are giving special offers in connection with the event.
