In 2006 Birdhill won the title of Ireland’s Tidiest Village in the National Tidy Town’s Competition. For three years they have scored the highest points in North Tipperary in the National Tidy Towns Competition.
This
year Birdhill have been chosen, along with Killarney, to represent Ireland in
the Entente Florale Competition. This is an international competition which
promotes a greener and more pleasant environment in European towns and
villages. The emphasis is on
· Encouraging actions that foster an increased sense of environmental awareness in local communities.
· Improving the quality of life for both local people and visitors by the planting of flowers and shrubs, by the development and maintenance of green spaces and parks and by generally fostering development which is ecologically and environmentally sensitive.
There are eleven European countries participating including Britain, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Ireland.
Judging takes place on Tuesday 3rd July and we wish Birdhill the best of luck.
