Council launches Tiobraid Álainn - Pride of Place Competition 2007
4th May, 2007 It's that time of year again and North Tipperary County Council is urging all Town and village community groups to get involved in this year's Tiobraid Alainn- Pride of Place competition. This annual competition, won by Birdhill Tidy Village last year, is open to all recognised groups in the county except for those in Town Council areas.
According to Lorraine Power, Environmental Awareness Officer, the competition is a great opportunity for local communities to work together to achieve lasting environmental improvements in their areas and, at the same time raise environmental awareness across the community.
"We encourage all communities who are working hard all year at improving their local environment to enter the competition and get some recognition for their efforts" she said.
"This is a great opportunity for community groups to build civic pride and to show off their local area".
Entries are judged under various headings including Litter Management and Tidiness, Awareness and Care of the Natural and Built Environment, Community Involvement and Promotion of Pride of Place.
Judging will take place throughout the summer months and awards will be presented to the successful community groups in each of the four electoral areas at the Annual Environmental Awards Ceremony in November. Also on the night an overall prize for the tidiest village or town in North Tipperary will be announced.
