Public Library Services

General Information

 Information with regard to services provided through our Libraries can  be obtained by contacting staff at  any of our  branches:

While the extent and range of services and stock will vary from branch to branch, all libraries provide core services such as lending and reference for adults and children.

Online Access

Information with regard to all library services will shortly be available on a new website [tipperarylibraries.ie]. Enhanced access to the online catalogue will also be provided, allowing users to access their records, renew materials and request titles.

Exhibitions

Exhibition and lecture facilities are available in Nenagh, Roscrea and Templemore branches. Please contact the librarian for details.

Internet

Internet access [broadband where available] and PC facilities are provided at all branches. Please contact the local librarian for reservations.

Requests

A special request service can be availed of at all branches and every effort is made to ensure that articles or books requested are supplied as quickly as possible.

Local History - Archives

A central Local History / Archives Department is located at the Co. Library HQ., Castle Avenue, Thurles (0504-21555). Because of the uniqueness of the collection, this is a reference-only service but every effort is made to ensure that queries by post, telephone, fax or e-mail are responded to quickly and efficiently.

County Tipperary Historical Society

The home of the County Tipperary Historical Society is the Co. Library HQ., Castle Avenue, Thurles (0504-21555). The Society produces an annual Journal which fosters new research in the history, geography, archaeology and folklore of County Tipperary. For membership of this Society, and details regarding publications and activities, contact the Treasurer at the above address.

Primary Schools Library Service

The Schools Library Service, which operates from the County Library Headquarters, Castle Avenue, Thurles (0504-21555) aims to provide a comprehensive mobile book service to all rural primary schools in the county.

Adult Literacy Support Services

A support service aimed at meeting the needs of Adult Literacy groups, tutors, students, etc., is also operated from the Co. Library HQ.  Alternatively those who are interested can contact their nearest branch library.
