North Tipperary Co. Co.’s Dog Pound is located at Knockalton, Nenagh (telephone number 067 33323) and is open to the public at the following times
Monday 4pm – 5.30pm
Tues – Fri 9am – 10.30am

Stray Dogs
Stray dogs are dogs that are in a public place and are not accompanied by the owner or a responsible person. Dogs that are not under proper control are also considered stray dogs. Stray dogs may be seized by the Dog Warden and/or Gardai and brought to a dog pound. These dogs may be put down or disposed of if their owners do not claim them within 5 days. If your dog has strayed or is missing, you should contact the local dog pound directly (067 33323) to check if your dog is there. Before you collect it, you will have to pay a re-claim fee which is currently €31 per dog plus €6 per day for every day it was impounded and also produce a current dog licence. If you do not have a current dog licence, you must purchase one and present it at the dog pound before collecting your dog.
Unwanted dogs
Unwanted dogs should be brought to the dog pound, where they can be
accepted for a fee. Greyhounds/ Commercial dogs can be surrendered for a fee
of €20 per dog and pets (Non Greyhounds) at a cost of €10 per dog.
Surrendered dogs can be collected by the Dog Warden at a cost of €30 per
dog. North Tipperary Co. Co. has the power to accept unwanted dogs and
destroy or dispose of them if they are not re-homed.
