Phosphorus Regulations

The third Phosphorus Regulations National implementation Report 2005 (EPA Mach 2006) indicate that Water Quality in the County has continued to improve with 65.3% of monitoring stations in North Tipperary achieving the required phosphorus regulations standard.

Lough Derg is also compliant with the regulations .

The catchment based approach adopted in the Shannon & Suir catchments have contributed to improved Water Quality.

The Council adopted Agriculture Bye Laws in 2000 in the area of the county identified in the Lough Derg/Lough Ree catchment report as being high risk for phosphorus discharge to water.

The Geologocial survey Ireland has prepared a Ground Water Protection plan for North Tipperary and this document can be viewed on www.GSI.ie

Small Streams Risk Score(SSRS)

The small streams risk score was developed to assess the risk posed to waters as determined by the numbers and different species of invertebrates in certain streams. In 2006 51 SSRS were carried out by environment staff of North Tipperary County Council. 36 of these were found to be at risk
