The local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee held four meetings in 2009. The Committee is comprised of four Elected Representatives, six Traveller/Traveller Support Representatives, one HSE Official and two Council Officials. The Consultative Committee meets to review and monitor the implementation of the Traveller Accommodation Programme.

Travelling Families

A census of Traveller families is conducted annually at the end of November. In North Tipperary in November 2009, there were 179 Traveller families. There were nineteen families on the roadside and no transient families.

In 2009 a Traveller Accommodation Programme for the period 2009 - 2013 was prepared, and adopted by the County Council.  A target of nine units of accommodation was set for 2009 in the Traveller Accommodation Programme 2009 - 2013.  Eleven units of accommodation were provided in 2009, with two tenancies in a Halting Site, eight in Standard Houses, and one in Voluntary Housing (Nenagh).

Voluntary Housing Programme

In 2009, Cluid Housing Association completed 76 units under the Capital Loan & Subsidy Scheme at Ballygraigue Road, Nenagh.  Respond Voluntary Housing Association completed a 42 unit mixed project at Whitepark, Roscrea in December.  Sue Ryder Foundation (Ireland) Ltd., is due to complete a 50 unit mixed project at Streame, Limerick Road, Nenagh in June of 2010.

 

House Construction Programme

The Housing Capital Allocation for 2009 was €3.25 million and there were 14 completions in the year.
