The local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee held four meetings in 2011. The Committee is comprised of four Elected Representatives, six Traveller/Traveller Support Representatives, one HSE Official and two Council Officials. The Consultative Committee meets to review and monitor the implementation of the Traveller Accommodation Programme.
A census of Traveller families is conducted annually at the end of November. In North Tipperary in November 2010, there were 186 Traveller families. There were twenty-three families on the roadside and no transient families.
In 2009 a Traveller Accommodation Programme for the period 2009 - 2013 was prepared, and adopted by the County Council. A target of 12 units of accommodation was set for 2010 in the Traveller Accommodation Programme 2009 - 2013. Five units of accommodation were provided in 2010, with two tenancies in a Halting Site, three in Standard Houses, and one in Voluntary Housing (Nenagh).
In 2010, Sue Ryder Foundation (Ireland) Ltd. completed a 50 unit project for Elderly People at Stereame, Limerick Road, Nenagh.
A further 14 units were funded by the Department in December, 2010 under the Capital Assistance Scheme as "Special Call for Proposals". Six units are being provided by Thurles Lions Trust at Butler Court, Thurles, 2 units are being provided by Templemore Voluntary Housing Association at Kiltillane, Templemore, 1 unit is being provided by Moyne Voluntary Housing Association at Moyne Village and 5 units are being provided by Newgrove Housing Association at No. 2, Castle Oak, Dark Road, Nenagh.
The Housing Capital Allocation for 2009 was €3.25 million and there were 14 completions in the year.
